VQ (and other models?) spoiler wire

Postby mikeatinto » Thu Jun 12, 2014 12:35 pm

Yesterday, while packing away my VQ11 (in its 2nd season with a bit over 80 hours airtime) I stabbed my finger on a piece of broken strand on the section of the spoiler wire which runs round the pulley at the nose.
Steve Elkins had warned me to keep a close eye on this wire for damage and I have taken his advice and ordered a replacement.
I have a photo if anyone is interested although I understand attachments are not possible on this forum?
The main point of the post however is to alert other owners to check their wires.
Cheers

Thanks Steve,
Seems the file size is limited to 256 KiB. Mine has been rejected, but I don't really think the photo adds much to the discussion.
Cheers

Yeah, the wire at the front/nose wears the fastest (it has the smallest radius pulley on older models - think they changed this recently though?)

I've found the rate of wear approx x3 between nose/side wires, e.g. 100 hours on nose wire vs. 300 hours on side wires, before a broken strand appears.

** - although these numbers were before I started the practice of disconnecting the wires when th eglider is on the ground - the 'hidden' wear we were not counting but is a real issue!
